Address: The Green, Weetwood Road, Wooler. NE71 6AE
Wooler Bowling Club is situated on B6348 across the iron bridge from the A697
A warm Wooler welcome awaits all, from novices to seasoned players.
Free introductory (Adults and Junior) sessions are available by arrangement through any Club member. Bowls and bowling shoes are available for loan. We often have bowls and equipment for hire/sale.
All age groups and abilities are welcome. Interested individuals and groups can be catered for at most times, by prior arrangement.
Visitors Fees are £2 per day or £8 per week. FREE trial periods are available for potential new members, so it can cost little or nothing to have a go.
The Club has a 6 rink, flat, grass bowling green. We are Bowls England affiliated.
The bowling season runs from mid April to late September.
We have bowling most days and evenings, weather and green work permitting.
Bowlers must use regulation footwear; otherwise no formal dress code is necessary for recreational play.
Monday nights are “Hat Nights”, where new and existing members of varying abilities can come together to develop their skills in a friendly atmosphere. These are held weekly throughout the season for 50p per session (incl. refreshment). Bowlers meet from 6:00 p.m. and play stars at 6:30 p.m., with tea/coffee and a chat to follow.
The club has a very comprehensive fixture list involving:
Member only competitions (singles, pairs, triples and rinks), many friendly matches (both home and away), North Northumberland League matches and three Invitation Pair's Competitions, which take place in June, July and early September.
We also hold inter County Matches for Bowls Northumberland together with championships in Singles, Pairs, Triples and Rinks competitions as preliminaries to the County Championships.
Inter-club matches are by arrangement with the Match Secretary John Guthrie, telephone 07733 662545. Invitation competition entries are by arrangement with Victoria Symons, telephone 07951 925094
For access and general enquiries, please contact the Club President, Richard Henthorn, telephone 07867 524246 or Vice President John Guthrie, telephone 07733 662545.
The Bowling Green and Clubhouse furnishings and equipment are all maintained voluntarily by the members with professional advice taken and skilled personnel employed where appropriate in the interest of Health and Safety (e.g. electrical installations and inspection, fire safety), as per Wooler Bowling Club Health and safety monitoring record sheet.
Wooler Bowling Club is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for members, visitors and other persons within its operating facilities and as such recognises its responsibilities with regards to the safety, health and well being of officials and members.
The Club is always delighted to welcome new members, be they experienced bowlers or beginners. Equally, if on holiday in or around Wooler, visitors are most welcome to come along. The green and clubhouse are accessible to disabled persons.
We hope that everyone who participates enjoys playing and watching the game, renewing old acquaintances and making new friends. This is what the game of bowls is all about and at Wooler we hope that both our members and visitors take home happy memories of our club, win or lose.
The clubhouse is also available for other activities to support the Wooler residents:
- The Wooler 1st Scout groups meet twice weekly.
- The Doddington Women’s Institute meets monthly.
- Other local groups use the clubhouse facilities as required.
