Plans for a whisky distillery and visitor centre to be built on the Redpath's Yard site are unveiled today. If approved, the Ad Gefrin Distillery will be the first whisky distillery in Northumberland, and could create up to 50 jobs.
The detailed plans are available for consultation from today in the Market Place, and will also be shown at the Glendale Show on Bank Holiday Monday.
The news has been welcomed by GGT chair Patrick Sheard: "This is very good news for Wooler and the wider Glendale area. The site has been a problem for the town for years, and a project like this, which will bring both jobs and visitors to the area, should be very good news indeed."
The project is expected to be built next year and opened in 2020. The first single malt whisky could be produced by around 2023, with full production after 8 years.
