Glendale Gateway Trust

Making life better for the people of Glendale

Frank Mansfield

Frank Mansfield

Vice Chairman.Elected Trustee.

Frank was a broadcast journalist for 30+ years (mainly with the BBC), and still teaches it part-time to postgrad students at Sheffield University. He started off while still a student by interviewing Bertrand Russell - "so it was pretty much all downhill since then". He has met several prime ministers, interviewed one of them (Edward Heath), had a row with David Blunkett, produced Tony Blackburn for 18 months, been a duty editor for Radio 5's Olympics output, taught ethics to BBC journalists ("I'd never heard of phone-hacking til that court case in 2006") and generally had a hugely enjoyable time, largely at the licence-payers' expense.

Having lived in Tyneside, London, Sheffield and Liverpool, he visited North Northumberland at least a couple of times every year. He bought a bungalow in Wooler in 1996 and moved permanently here in 2004. He has been a trustee since 2010.
