Documentary about the life and work of early feminist Josephine Butler. Josephine gave a voice to women who were being exploited and treated barbarically as part of the Contagious Diseases Acts. She also shone a light on the sexual trafficking of women and girls in the later half of the 19th century. She is now largely forgotten, but the work she did still has resonances today.
When I decided to make this film the immediate challenge was how to bring her work to life more than 100 years after her death, particularly on a micro budget.
