Ford Parish Council

Update October 2013

Heatherslaw Car Park
Heatherslaw Bridge

Ford Parish Council met on the 10th September when it welcomed Jemma Reay from the County Council, who had been invited to answer questions on Heatherslaw car park.

Councillors and residents had raised concerns as to why the work had taken so long, appeared over engineered and was unusable when it opened due to loose gravel. Jemma explained that the delays were due to planning regulations which had to be gone through repeatedly when problems were encountered during construction, and also the increased amount of bureaucracy in recent years. the degree of engineering was consistent for a site which is subject to flooding. The total cost of the project, including the bridge decking, was £117K. Concern was raised about the state of the paintwork on the bridge which is rusting with sharp edges exposed, and a cosmetic repaint was promised although it may be some time before it is done.

The council was disappointed to learn that the resurfacing of the Crookham footpath, which had been promised to be done in September 2012, had been the victim of the cuts to the Highways budget and was therefore added to the Local Transport Plan, as was the resurfacing of the layby between Ford Bridge and the A697. The priority of the LTP remains the reinstatement of the footbridge at Etal.

At long last the obstructed drains by Ford School have been cleared.
