Parish Council – Supporting the Community

The Parish Council plays an important role as the grassroots level of Local Government, directly representing and promoting the interests of its community. In addition to the Councillors, who are your unpaid representatives, the Parish Council employs a Clerk to carry out its business and ensure the many statutory requirements on the Parish Council are met. To finance the Parish Council, a small levy is made on your Council Tax, called the Precept.

Ford Parish Council meets every second month, when the public is welcome to attend and have the opportunity to ask questions. The Agenda, outlining the business to be discussed, and the Minutes, or record of the Ford Parish Council Meeting, are displayed on the Village Hall notice boards at Etal, Ford & Crookham villages. In addition, they are displayed on the Parish Council website, www.wooler.org.uk/fordpc and a summary of Parish Council activity is given in the local newsletter.

Ford Parish Council promotes the interests of the Parish in relation to all aspects of community life, including:

  • Highways & road safety
  • Planning & Development
  • Public transport
  • Care in the community
  • Housing needs
  • Recreation facilities
  • The environment
  • Health care

In addition, the Parish Council is responsible for maintaining community facilities, such as bus shelters and litter bins.
