Looking for a way to blast off those cobwebs following the festive season?  Here’s a half marathon for the hardy souls only – summer runners look away now!  Hedgehope is the second highest peak in the Cheviots and is regarded by many as the jewel in the crown.  It’s domed summit provides a hard climb no matter how it’s approached.

Winter in the Cheviots can be a sun-drenched frozen wonderland or it can be howling winds and Arctic temperatures.  For this reason we’d highly recommend that you be an experienced trail/fell runner with a knowledge of cold weather running.  The safety kit is mandatory and everyone will be checked before they head out into the hills.

Date: Sunday 22nd January, 2017

The event will be held at Ingram Cafe which gives you plenty of opportunity to grab hot food and drinks before and after the run.  In return for entering you’ll get the support for a dedicated safety team out on the route, an event mug with free soup and winners prizes for all the racing snakes out there.  Bask in the satisfaction of completing this tough run with a mug of hot soup inside you when it’s all over.

With over 2500 feet of climbing and variable terrain you’ll need to be steady on your feet and pretty determined.  People can go out and do this route any time they wish but to do it as part of an event gives you a safety blanket should things go wrong.  A number of tents can be found on route and you can feel free to dive into one should you need to.  The team is there to help and a medic will be on hand and emergency services pre-notified.  Not that you’ll need them!  The run is a straight up and down to maximise use of marshals and increase peoples ability to follow the right directions.
