We are T R Johnson a long established Wooler butchers business now run by partners Alan Cowan and Derrick McDougal. Our aim is to provide quality products and quality service to all their customers.

We offer our customers a choice of beef. We have local beef bought at local marts and hung for at least 21 days before cutting The complete history of all the beef is known, as we run a complete and comprehensive tracability scheme.

We also supply Rare Breed Beef from the Rare Breed Survival Trust (R.B.S.T). We use belted Galloway’s purchased from Tim Oliver, East Farm, Great Whittington, Newcastle. To reduce animal stress Mr Oliver does not use the mart but personally takes the animals to the nearest local abattoir. The meat is hung for 21 days before cutting for the shop.

Pork is also covered by the R.B.S.T and is supplied by T Burn of Hunting Hall, Beal. He specialise in the Tamworth and Saddleback pigs. These animals are also taken direct to the abattoir from the farm. We use these pigs for joints, chops, home cured bacon and gammon as well as our rare breed sausages.

Lambs are supplied by N Howie, North Lyham farm who specialise in Vendeen and X Vendeen lambs. Yet again we are able to confirm that these animals are moved direct from farm to abattoir. They have proved to be popular tasting lambs which are also hung before being displayed. For anyone requiring Rare Breed lamb we will endeavour to acquire it for them.

We offer an extensive and increasing range of homemade sausages and burgers, many using local recipes. Our pies which range from individual to family size are all baked on the premises from the finest ingredients .Various cooked meats also cooked or roasted on the premises.

We also have new line free range chickens usually in the 4lb to 5lb range. They are supplied by Blagdon Farming.

Our free range eggs are supplied from Adderstone who also supply limited numbers of maize fed free range chicken and at Xmas our free range turkeys.
