The Glendale Gateway Trust is a local development Trust which was set up in 1996 to promote, improve, maintain, encourage and advance the benefit of the inhabitants of Glendale. The Trust is a community lead body and is represented by local volunteers as well as retailers, local councillors and local organizations.
On the ground the Trust has been active in implementing recommendations from the Wooler Village appraisal and community initiatives including: The Cheviot Centre which opened in November 2000, this is an all-encompassing community facility. The project brings together community activities and services to improve access and sustainability.

The Cheviot Centre
This former work house was the Trusts first major project. Now a significant visitor attraction it houses the Tourist Information Centre and an exciting National Park exhibition interpreting the rich, hill fort heritage of the area. Also on permanent display is the Millennium Cross-stitch, which depicts local history and culture. There are community offices, a children's area with crèche facilities and large community rooms for hire. A ten place computer room with internet facilities was added in 2002. The centre has full accessible including a lift to the upper floor.
The Cheviot Centre was given the honour of a formal opening by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2002.
The Mechanics Institute
The return of this building to everyday use has meant that a home could be offered to the Wooler Youth Drop-in Centre which itself started life as a GGT sub group but is now well on it's way to full independence.
Market Towns Initiative
A 3 year project began in 2002 bringing together various groups and agencies to develop services and facilities for the community. Progress has been rapid with several projects getting off the ground during the first year. A skate board park was completed and High Street visual improvement scheme is well under way. Perhaps the most exciting project so far is the purchase of several derelict buildings in the High Street for renovation. With our partners it is planned to develop a small housing project as well as returning the associated shops to everyday use.
Other Projects that come under overall umbrella of the GGT are:-
The Wooler Website - Yes this one!
The Glendale Festival
The Glendale Oral History Society
